Check this out, it's pretty funny. The comments are a bit disturbing though.

"I lie in bed, still trembling. You can wet the rim of a glass and run your finger around the rim and it will make a sound. This is what I feel like: this sound of glass. I feel like the word shatter." - The Handmaid's Tale
Just had to share one of the many reasons why I adore Atwood. Imagery.

I'd like to put in my vote for this month's book situation:
Lolita -- Vladimir Nabokov
I have to confess, this is the only one I had time to read this time around. I still plan on reading Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer and 120 Days of Sodom by Marquis de Sade, but even after reading these I still would probably vote for Lolita because of Nabokov's powerful use of the english language.
Can't wait for the next run of books!

|epicanthic||01:36 pm - Post-Frances Recovery|
hey my dears!
Now that Hurricane Frances has blown her load (hehe), I'm back on track with civilization. Thank God!!! Nonetheless, I just wanted to remind you that voting for September's book ends on Saturday, the very ominous 3rd (?) anniversary of the 9-11 crash. Those who haven't voted are encouraged to do so by the deadline. :)
Also, I have a deal for those interested in BUST magazine.
If you like what you see and would like to subscribe to the magazine, I can give you a MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper rate. As opposed to the $19.95 per year or $4.99 per issue regular prices, BUST is now offering yearly subscriptions at only $10!!! Trust me, that is an awesome deal. That's 6 issues for only $10. let me know if you're interested in it. You can e-mail me:
I can only accept checks for this deal. Company policy and for your own safety. :)
Of course, this is a legit deal. I'm working with the magazine this semester, so if you'd like to support great independent magazines and feminism, please get a subscription!
Thank you thank you!! <3

I'm new, and I gather I've just missed reading Slaughterhouse Five! That's depressing, that book's one of my favorites.

|alaughingshadow||10:56 pm - a new soul...|
Hello. I just found this community on a thread from cellar_door and though I'd join. So here are the facts about me...
Age: 33 years old
Where: currently in Darien Ill, but I may be relocating very soon.
The Anarachists Cookbook by Lyle Stuart (it's an odd bit of my childhood)
Justine by De Sade
Lolita by Nabokov
Dune by Frank Herbert
Brave New World by Aldus Huxley
Honestly this list could be longer but my books are in storage (much to my distress). As for books I would like to see here... I joined to find new books I had not heard of or thought of reading.

To clarify, my previous post was an adamant vote for September's reading, not an announcement.
Just in case.

Welcome to all the new people!
Sorry that you arrived at such an awkward time but we're almost at the end of this month's book. However, I already put up the new book list for September. Voting ends September 11 so you could start voting if you want. :)
On a different note,
I just moved back to Orlando so I'm sorry if I've been distant. September will be better. I promise. :)
